Child abuse, neglect cases triple in Allegan County

Allegan County, MI —

Short cash, a rough job market, stressed parents and nervous, well-meaning neighbors — all of them are possible factors in an apparent increase of child neglect and abuse in Allegan County, experts say.

The number of confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in Allegan County in 2009 is nearly three times as high as it was in the late 1990s, according to numbers released today.
