New Zealand- Parliament has started debating legislation that'll make it illegal to know about the abuse of a child and not report it.
The amendment to the Crimes Act also makes parents more accountable when harm is done to a child. They'll no longer be able to claim they didn't know about any abuse or violence.
The bill also amends the Claim of Right defence successfully used by three Waihopai spy base protesters.
Attorney-General Chris Finlayson says all parents, even those under 18, can be prosecuted under the legislation with one aim.
"To encourage those in day to day contact with endangered children to act proactively to protect children, or if that's not possible, come forward if they know that abuse or neglect is taking place." FULL STORY
You just have to wonder what the limit is to the oppression from government people will put up with.
