Take It to the Streets! No, we’re not talking about staging a protest over the state of parental rights. But we do want to take news of the Parental Rights Amendment to the streets and businesses where you live. So this week is the Summer of 76 Community Canvassing Week, leading up to Parents’ Day this weekend. That means it’s time to warm up those printers, fill those staplers, and spread the news that America needs the Parental Rights Amendment. Action Items 1. Post flyers in your community. A black-and-white flyer is available here, or a color version is available here. Print out as many as you can, cut the vertical lines at the bottom to make the tabs easy to tear off, and post them anywhere they might be seen: library or church bulletin boards, shop windows, even telephone poles. Be sure you post them only where you are allowed to do so – we don’t want to litter or irritate your community!
2. Distribute Parents’ Day flyers to your congregation this weekend. This new bulletin insert/flyer is available in black and white and in color, so you can print out whichever fits your printing abilities. Print them two-sided, cut down the middle, and you have a two-sided half-page insert to educate your congregation on the threats to parental rights. This Sunday, July 24, is Parents’ Day, so if you can, try to get these out this weekend. Be sure to get the necessary approval from your congregation’s leadership, however. Better to put them out a week or two later than to disrupt your worship community.
3. Submit a letter to the editor in your local paper. A sample is available here. Whether you use some piece of national or local news as a hook or just dive right in to the subject of parental rights is up to you. This sample uses a national news hook (the debt deadlock) and lays out several reasons for the Amendment. It would be great if your letter could run this weekend in conjunction with these other efforts, but any time is fine. Just get it written this week so you don’t forget, put it off, and fail to send it in.
4. Schedule your fundraiser or other event. We’ve been urging for a couple of weeks now that you plan an event that will draw a crowd in order to gain petition signers and raise funds for the Parental Rights Amendment. Now we have available our one-page flyer that you can share at your event to get people talking and ready to sign! So plan your event (click here for ideas and instructions), print out the flyer, and don’t forget to fill out the sign-up form so we can offer any needed support!
Sincerely,
