Honoring Inspiring Parents
We were
humbled and inspired by the devotion of CWO Edward Cantrell and Indiana
mother Stephanie Decker, who risked and sacrificed to save their
children. In the two weeks since we shared their stories,
there have been a number of headlines about other parents going to
great lengths to protect, defend, or rescue their kids, but none have
been as dramatic as these two.
And that’s okay. Not all parents will face down death for
their child’s sake. But they all invest their lives in one form or
another.
As promised last week, we are now accepting submissions
for a publication with the working title, “Parents Who Inspire.” (The
final title is not yet determined.) Here’s what we’re looking for and
how the process will work:
What We're Looking For
We are
seeking stories on the theme, “Parents Who Inspire.” Stories should be
by children or acquaintances of the parents whose story is deserving of
recognition. Did your mom or dad make sacrifices for you, or otherwise
inspire you to become who you are today? Perhaps it was the parent of a
childhood friend whose sacrifice impacted your life. Tell us their story.
Submissions should be 600-1,500 words in length, and need to
be in one of the following 4 formats: doc, docx, rtf, or pdf.
Please keep in mind that we are not looking for first-person
hero stories. Many of you go above and beyond fighting for your kids
every day, against judges, bureaucrats, or someone else. While we salute
your efforts, this is not a forum for getting that story out. Instead,
perhaps you could share the story of the one who taught you to sustain that fight.
How It Will Work
Visit parentalrights.org/submissions and complete the brief interest form to submit your story.
You will receive a reply email including the release form we need to
use your work. Simply reply to the email granting your permission and
release, attach your submission to that reply, and send it back to us.
(See step-by-step directions on the web page.)
We will read the stories, pick out the best and most
inspiring, and edit and compile the publication. Not all submissions
will be used, but those writers whose stories are included will receive a free copy of the finished work.
When the publication is ready, it will be made available
through our website both as an incentive to donate to ParentalRights.org
and as a means to spread the passion for parents that will fuel the
passage of the Parental Rights Amendment.
Submissions must be received by 5:00 EDT on April 23, 2012. So get your story in today!
Sincerely,
Michael Ramey
