Parents Who Inspire
Last week
I wrote to you about CWO Edward Cantrell of North Carolina and
Stephanie Decker of Indiana, two parents who made tremendous sacrifices
in the interest of their children. Their devotion and selflessness are
truly inspiring.
But not all heroes sacrifice their bodies in one bright flash
of bravery. For some, it is a passionate commitment over decades to
invest in someone they believe is more important than themselves – their
child.
Your father probably never had to dash into a burning
building to pull you out, but he may have done other things that shaped
your life and empowered you to become who you are.
Your mother probably never shielded you from a tornado with
her own body, but perhaps she worked two jobs to see that you were well
taken care of. Or perhaps she gave up her career altogether so she could
be there for you day in and day out.
Whatever the story, we’re going to give you the chance to tell it.
I am excited to announce that ParentalRights.org is planning a
new publication about parents who inspire us to become the best we can
be – and you are invited to be among its authors!
We are not seeking submissions just yet – details will be
posted next week, and submissions accepted then – but you can get
started gathering your thoughts. Submissions will be 600-1,500 words in
length, and should talk about a parent hero, a parent who inspired you,
who empowered you to become who you are today. And they should be
true-life accounts (no fictional short stories, please).
We will invite parenting experts and a few celebrities to
contribute as well, and then compile the whole thing into a single
publication – a literary treasure chest of parent heroes to inspire us
all over again.
We believe the resulting work will help raise funds for our vital mission, but even more importantly, we believe stories like these will help spread the passion for parental rights
that we all share. In the face of parent-hero stories like these, how
can anyone fail to see that fit parents, and not bureaucrats, should be
entrusted to decide what is in the best interest of their children?
So start writing, and we’ll let you know next week where to
send your story for consideration. I look forward to learning about the
parent heroes in your life!
