Sign Them Up, Vote Them In
The 2012
elections are only 4 weeks away, so the time is now to make the Parental
Rights Amendment an election issue all over the country. Trouble is,
we’re a little short-handed and we need your help. Our staff have worked diligently over the last several weeks to contact every House and Senate candidate in the country who will be on the ballot –that’s every race in every state. We have sent a pledge to those we could reach, asking them to commit to support the Parental Rights Amendment if they are elected to Congress next month. So far we’ve only had about forty responses, but there are two good reasons for that. First, some candidates have not been reached yet. We have tried to get a pledge to everyone, but we can’t always find their contact information and we lack the staff to track down all 1,360 candidates for the various seats. Second, some who have been reached are not yet aware that parental rights is a very important issue. They received the pledge, but they didn’t give it the attention it deserves. You can help us meet both challenges. First, check your state’s candidates page by visiting ParentalRights.org/States. Click on your state, then on “2012 Candidates” (below the state map image) to see the list. If your candidate’s name is in green, he or she has already communicated support for the Parental Rights Amendment and there is no need for further action. (But if your state has a Senate race this year, be sure to check on that as well.) If your candidate’s name is not in green, we have provided their contact information if we have it. Contact them and let them know (courteously) that the issue of parental rights is very important to you, and that you plan to vote based in large part on that issue. Invite them to sign the pledge from ParentalRights.org to support the Parental Rights Amendment. If the name is not green but there is no contact information provided – which right now is true of a large number of candidates – please help us by finding that contact information for us so we can share it with our other supporters. Finally, if it’s not too late in your state, register to vote. And plan to cast your vote in support of parental rights on November 6! Sincerely, Michael Ramey Director of Communications & Research P.S. – We are excited to announce that Constitutional Literacy will be back for one day only on United Nations Day, October 24. Since we would much rather celebrate our Constitution than the U.N., we will offer the DVD set that one day only, for the smallest donation we have asked yet. See next week’s newsletter for more details. |
