Make Your Voice Heard Today!

It is terrific that so many of you made your voices heard last week through our social media campaign (see below). But the greatest opportunity we have to impact our laws is our right to vote. I cannot urge you enough: Get out today and vote for candidates who will uphold your parental rights!

In a few hours we will begin to see the shape of the Congress for the next two years. Will it be more or less friendly to the Parental Rights Amendment? You can be certain we will continue our efforts either way, but who we elect today will make our job that much harder or easier.

Please get to the polls today to support candidates who will advance the Parental Rights Amendment! (To see which candidates support parental rights, click on your state here, then click "2012 Candidates.")

Social Media Success

Last week, we urged you to join us in a social media campaign to voice our opposition to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We were amazed and inspired by the number and dedication of you who participated through Facebook and Twitter.

As it turns out, a few organizations pushing for CRPD ratification were trying to rally social media support for the treaty on the same day. But you guys blew them out of the water! For the heart of the day, I estimate that we posted 5 tweets (Twitter messages) for every one they posted. Even more importantly, I believe we had about 20 different participants for every 1 they had.

I am aware that “social media” is not the strength of our support base. A few of you are “natives” of the internet jungle, but most of you are not really comfortable there. Yet you stepped outside of your comfort zone to take part – and your voices were clearly heard.

Our opponents took to Twitter and Facebook looking to coordinate a major victory. Instead, they met you – the voice for parental rights and American self-government!

I was especially impressed by one family who emailed me for help. They were almost completely unfamiliar with Facebook or Twitter. I gave them step-by-step instructions, thinking as I did that this was so far from their comfort zone that they would probably decide it’s not worth the hassle. Instead, they emailed me back to tell me they had successfully posted to both media, including a “tweet” to their returning senator! I was inspired and encouraged by their determination, and I hope you are, too.

Sincerely,

Michael Ramey
Director of Communications & Research

P.S. – Last week we also hinted at a coming call blitz. Due to our social media success, we decided it would not be necessary after all – but we may yet have need of calls during the upcoming “lame duck” session. Please be prepared to participate. Thank you!
