It’s Christmas time, with the annual “naughty and nice” list. As you know, last Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the Senate decided against ratifying the UN CRPD disabilities treaty by a 61–38 vote.
Thirty-eight senators are part of our “nice” list, as they stood up to protect Americans with disabilities from control by the United Nations. They voted no on this treaty so that parents—instead of United Nations bureaucrats—could continue to choose what is best for their special needs children. Yet, while their motives behind defeating the treaty were simply to protect the disabled and American sovereignty, these 38 senators have received a lot of heat for their vote.
As we wrote last week, the Senate will vote on this treaty again sometime in 2013. The 38 senators need to hear your thanks and encouragement so that they know that the vast majority of Americans do not want the UN meddling in our laws and policies.
Please take a moment to send an email and call any or all of the 38 senators listed below with the following message in your own words. We encourage you to send messages to senators even if they are not from your state, but it is also important to contact your own senators if they are among the 38 who voted against the CRPD. You can find your own senators by putting in your ZIP code here. And you can seemore information about the CRPD on our website.

Dear Senator:
Thank you so much for your vote on December 4 to oppose ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. I know that there was a great deal of pressure from influential people and organizations for you to vote in favor of ratification. Thank you for taking a strong stand for the right of parents and caregivers—not the United Nations—to make crucial decisions for people with disabilities. Thank you for taking a strong stand for U.S. sovereignty and against the United Nations encroaching on our liberty.
Our nation is blessed to have leaders like you who are willing to take difficult votes to stand up for parental rights and sovereignty.
If this treaty comes up in the future, please continue to stand for the principle that Americans, not the UN, should make our laws and policy, and please continue to stand against this and other UN treaties.
Sincerely,
[your name]
