National Database, Common Core, Romeikes, and More

Two weeks ago we alerted you to the existence of a database of public school student records that already involves data on millions of students from nine states (and growing). Since then, as we have dug deeper, we have also become more keenly aware of the “Common Core Curriculum.” This is a series of education standards agreed upon by some 46 States and the District of Columbia – a de facto national school curriculum.

These topics are deeply intertwined, and we are investing our research time and resources into unraveling them for you in the coming weeks.

We are also planning to ask you to take action on the Romeike case later this week. The Romeikes are a German family granted asylum in the U.S. because of persecution in their home country. Their choice to teach their children at home, though based on their religious convictions and human rights outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is illegal under German law. This is a violation of their parental, religious, and educational rights, yet our Attorney General’s office has sought to overturn their asylum status. ParentalRights.org President Michael Farris is representing this family before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

We are also planning a special event next week to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the Seventeenth Amendment. That’s the one making U.S. Senators directly elected by the people rather than the States, so we think it’s the perfect time for a gentle reminder that your senators work for you.

With so much coming up in the next several days, I thought it best today to just give you a “heads up” in place of a full newsletter. Watch for more on the Romeikes in your inbox on Thursday and watch for our Senate event next Tuesday.

Thank you for standing with us to protect children by empowering parents through the Parental Rights Amendment.

Sincerely,

Michael Ramey
Director of Communications & Research
