Update on Parental Rights Goals
We are also grateful for the many excellent volunteers working all across the country to introduce and champion parental rights statutes and resolutions in their state. At the beginning of last year, only 4 states had laws to protect fundamental parental rights. Today, there are 8. And 6 more states have introduced similar legislation in 2014: HB 2174 in Washington, SB 100 in Indiana, SB 203 in Alabama, HB 1488 in Missouri, HB 1384 in Oklahoma, and SB 2199 in Mississippi. With your help (watch for email alerts when action is needed in your state), we can nearly double the number of states protecting parents’ rights in statutory law this year! In addition, four states have introduced resolutions calling on Congress to propose the Parental Rights Amendment: Michigan (HCR 13), Nebraska (LR 42), Mississippi (SC 0523), and Washington (HJM 4004). Again, we will keep you posted as action is needed to support these resolutions in your state. To date six states have already adopted similar resolutions, including Florida, Louisiana, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. You can share a bigger part in these victories, too! To get more involved in the work in your state, fill out the simple sign-up form at parentalrights.org/volunteer. Thank you again for you consistent support as we defend fit parents in caring for their children. Sincerely, Michael Ramey Director of Communications & Research |
