Last week, the U.S. Department of Education, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice, released a school discipline guidance package to assist states, districts and schools in developing practices and strategies to enhance school climate. The package includes a compendium of state laws and regulations about student discipline-compiled by Child Trends and searchable online, for each state, by specific approach, infraction, oversight, and more.   ACCESS THE PACKAGE Trend Lines Blog Tips on book reading for parents of young children  Hillary's favorite! Find out what.  Ten topics you'd be remiss to have missed Take a look back at some of our top topics in 2013, from the risks facing military kids, to child welfare policies nationwide, to helping Latina teens avoid pregnancy.    READ THE BLOG    New Research Child care and early education policy and research  The Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE), in the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), released several publications produced by Child Trends as part of the Child Care and Early Education Policy and Research Analysis Project.  The Child Care Decision-Making Literature Review provides an overview of factors that influence parents' decision-making related to child care. Conceptualizing and Measuring Collaboration in the Context of Early Childhood Care and Education presents a state-level collaboration logic model depicting the key components of collaboration across early care and education, and identifies and considers existing measures of collaboration.
