Legislative Update: PRA On the Move
Support for the Parental Rights Amendment continues to grow across the country, and is finding a voice in the states through state resolutions. Two particular challenges came to a head yesterday, and I am excited to share the outcomes with you.

First, HCR 11 in Michigan faced its first hurdle in the form of the House Committee on Families, Children, and Seniors, where a representative of the ACLU opposed the measure in a hearing last week. The last thing mentioned before the committee voted in their executive session yesterday was a reminder that the ACLU opposed the resolution. Nevertheless, the final vote to pass it out of committee with recommendation was 8 ayes, 0 nays, 1 pass (present but not voting). So despite ACLU opposition, Michigan is a giant step closer to calling on Congress to propose the Parental Rights Amendment.

Second, Wyoming’s budget session convened on Monday, and HJ 3 was to be introduced yesterday. The challenge, however, is that introducing a non-budget item during the budget session requires a 2/3 vote to suspend the rules – just to allow for the resolution to be considered.

Thankfully, HJ 3 did receive the requisite votes to be sent to the House Labor, Health, & Social Services Committee for consideration during this term. (Wyoming residents are urged to be on the lookout for alerts in the weeks ahead, as this very fast-moving session will conduct and conclude all business by March 9.)

We continue to watch resolutions in Georgia, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Mississippi, as well – and we expect a resolution in North Carolina when their legislature convenes in May. Visit parentalrights.org/resolution for the status of a resolution in your state.

We are also continuing to monitor favorable bills in New Hampshire and a dangerous bill in Washington state that we alerted you about earlier (if you live in one of those states). There is no new news as yet, but when there is, we will let you know.

Through your ongoing support and our combined vigilance, we are having a positive impact in the battle to preserve our American heritage for the next generation. Together, we will win the war to protect children by empowering parents through passage of the Parental Rights Amendment!

(If you can donate to further this vital cause, please do so here.)

Sincerely,
