NCFA Releases Adoption Advocate No. 48: Supporting Maltreated Children: Countering the Effects of Neglect and Abuse
The June issue of NCFA's Adoption Advocate,
"Supporting Maltreated Children: Countering the Effects of Neglect and
Abuse," is excerpted from several articles by Dr. Bruce D. Perry, M.D.,
Ph.D., Provincial Medical Director in Children’s Mental Health for the
Alberta Mental Health Board and Senior Fellow of the ChildTrauma Academy
in Houston. This article includes several characteristics and problems
common to children that have experienced abuse or neglect, and offers
suggestions for parents and caregivers on how to talk with their
children and help them move beyond the trauma in their past.
The Adoption Advocate
is a monthly publication created by NCFA to educate policymakers,
families, child welfare specialists, and other interested parties on
today's most relevant child welfare and adoption issues.
