Oklahoma City program gives teen moms shot at diploma

....Parenthood is the top reason for teen mothers to drop out of high school, according to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Fewer than 40 percent of teen moms earn high school diplomas, and only 2 percent earn college degrees by age 30.

The effects reverberate with those mothers' children, according to the campaign. They're less likely to graduate high school than children of older mothers.

....“It is critical that they get an education and the skills to support their families and to move on a path toward economic self-sufficiency,” she said. “The data does not hold out a lot of hope sometimes, because a very large percentage find the challenges too much to finish high school, let alone to go on to further education and training.”  FULL STORY
