Florida- A new agency is poised to take over the child-welfare system that serves thousands of kids, families, foster parents and social workers in Orange and Osceola counties.
This week, the state's Department of Children and Families selected the nonprofit Community Based Care of Seminole to run operations in the two counties — including adoptions, foster care, child-abuse prevention efforts and working with troubled families that are under a judge's supervision.
The counties have some of the highest child-abuse rates in the nation.
"This is a big deal for the community," said John Cooper, director of DCF's Central Region. "This is a contract worth over $200 million for four years, and it could significantly shape the way we do business* in Orange and Osceola counties for potentially the next eight to nine years." FULL STORY
*Some people would consider this a Freudian Slip. It's not about the kids. It has never been about the kids. It's about the MONEY.
