CRPD Hearing TODAY! Please Call

The United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which would hand over American sovereignty and parental rights to a United Nations committee, is the subject of a hearing before the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee this afternoon at 2:30 EST. Our own Michael Farris will be there to testify against ratification, as will Catholic Family and Human Rights Organization’s Susan Yoshihara and University of Georgia School of Law Assistant Professor Timothy Meyer.

A vote will not be taken today. Indicators suggest a second hearing is in the works for November 19, with a vote coming after that second hearing.

However, it is vital that your senators hear from you on this vital issue. Those who are on the committee need to know that their constituents oppose this treaty so that they will pay closer attention to the facts that Farris, Meyers, and Yoshihara share with them. And those who are not on the committee need to know that you are opposed so that they can use that filter as they hear about the committee’s proceedings.

Honestly, we expect that the committee will pass this measure pretty handily. This is going to come to a floor vote. But the time to start to influence that floor vote is now. (The week of that vote, of course, we will let you know again and work together to bury their offices in phone calls, emails, and even faxes.)

So please take a moment right now, before you close this email, to call both of your senators and urge them to Vote “No” on the CRPD.

You can make that call in one of two ways. Either call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your senators (you will have to call twice, once for each senator), or find their direct office numbers by clicking on your state or state abbreviation at parentalrights.org/states and scrolling down to the Senate listings.

Do not think that because we won last year we can survive this assault on our freedoms without you. The Senate has changed, the climate has changed, and the threat of this treaty passing is greater than ever.

Please call today, then keep calling every few days until that floor vote takes place. Thank you for standing with us to preserve freedom for the next generation of Americans – those with and without disabilities.

Sincerely,

Michael Ramey
Director of Communications & Research
