GAO Releases Report on Children in Care with Incarcerated Parents

The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently released a report, “Child Welfare: More Information and Collaboration Could Promote Ties Between Foster Care Children and Their Incarcerated Parents” in response to a request by Represenatives Jim McDermott (D-WA) and Charles Rangel (D-NY). The report covers available data on the number of children in care with incarcerated parents, policies and agency strategies for improving these families’ connections, and reccomendations for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to improve assistance to agencies working with this population.
