Two Crucial Weeks for Parental Rights

In two weeks the world (for the most part) will still for the Christmas holiday. The House and Senate will be in recess, and families collectively will pause to think on bigger (and much more pleasant) things than politics and parental rights. But between now and then lie these two critical weeks, and there is much to be done.

This week is the final week before the U.S. House goes on holiday recess, the final week to convince your congressman to sign on as cosponsor of the Parental Rights Amendment in 2013. Visit 4pra.us/House to see if your lawmaker is one of the 65 who are already cosponsors. If not, you can reach your congressman’s office through the Capitol Switchboard (202-224-3121), or find his contact information by clicking on your state at parentalrights.org/States. Ask him to contact Patrick Fleming in Rep. Mark Meadows’ office to sign on as a cosponsor of HJRes. 50, the proposed Parental Rights Amendment.

This week also marks the return of the Senate from a two-week recess. They are expected to be back in session at least through the 20th, during which time we will be watching very closely for the next movement of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

This is also a crucial time for us to call our senators and urge them to reject this treaty, which causes such risk to parental rights and American sovereignty. You can reach your senators through the Capitol Switchboard (202-224-3121) or find their direct contact information by clicking on your state at ParentalRights.org/States.

Finally, this is also a critical time to register your showing of Overruled: Government Invasion of Your Parental Rights. This 35-minute docudrama can get the discussion started around parental rights, and can inform your family and friends of the growing threat to our foundational family liberties. To see the step-by-step guide and sign up your own showing, please visit ParentalRights.org/Overruled.

We are all busy as we shift our attention toward the holidays - but before we get there, let's take these simple steps to protect parental rights for future generations. Thank you for standing with us throughout this year, and into the future!

Sincerely,

Michael Ramey
Director of Communications & Research
