Joke time:

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her before the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage, and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back, letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A New York Times reporter has witnessed the whole scene, and addressing the biker, says, "Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life."

"Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right."

"Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist from the New York Times, you know, and tomorrow's paper will have this on the front page. What motorcycle do you ride and what political affiliation do you have?"

"A Harley Davidson, and I am a Republican."

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the New York Times and reads, on the front page:

There seems to be little ground to share with the rag tag group of communists, hippies, and hipsters occupying Zuccotti Park in New York City. But, I am told by people who've been out surveying the crowds in other parts of the country—occupying Chicago to Atlanta—that there are some poor souls shivering and smelly that conservatives should not turn their backs on.

In fact, a number of conservative thinkers are concerned that maybe, just maybe, we might be engaged in reaction instead of apologetics and are losing people to the left that we need not lose.

I think most of the ground we could share with the occupy movement is superficial ground. Most of those on Wall Street want retribution and punishment of the rich. They've cast out greed, but are filled up with envy and jealousy.

Elsewhere, there may be some common ground. Some of the protestors are just tired that they can't find a job and no one seems to want to help them. The issue, then, is not punishing the rich, but helping these people. And many conservatives agree that the deck has been stacked in favor of big corporations too. We're all opposed to TARP and bailouts and special tax loopholes that only benefit one company.

We're all opposed to companies that have found it more useful to spend money on lobbyists to get a competitive advantage through law than to innovate and compete with upstart entrepreneurs. The solution then, it seems, is not more regulation and not to punish the successful. The solution is to actually level the playing field.

Simplify the tax code. Deregulate. Make it easy for entrepreneurs to get started. Reduce the nanny-state, not expand it. The time is right for a conservative, populist anti-Wall Street movement. Most Americans do think the deck is stacked against them. But unlike the hipsters, hippies, and communists, most Americans do not want to punish the successful. There has been several people wanting to take the protest against CPS destruction of families to these protests.

Tempting as that might be, I believe our message would be drowned out by the larger agenda, which is that the Occupy people want to destroy capitalism. 


The only replacement for capitalism that I am aware of is communism or theocracy.  The PROBLEM is Big Government, not CAPITALISM

And OUR problem with CPS is that it IS Big Nanny Government.

Finland vows care for narcolepsy kids

The Finnish government and major insurance companies announced on Wednesday (5 October 2011) they will pay for lifetime medical care for children diagnosed with narcolepsy after receiving the swine flu vaccine.

‘The compensation will provide much-needed financial assistance for the families, although it cannot take away the emotional distress caused by this condition,’ Social Services and Health Minister Paula Risikko said in a statement.

Finnish and international researchers recently found a conclusive link between the Pandemrix swine flu vaccine and new cases of narcolepsy, a chronic nervous system disorder which causes people to often uncontrollably fall asleep....”

CWLA and other national juvenile justice leaders have come together to organize a petition drive urging Congress to restore critical juvenile justice funding. This past July, the House Appropriations Committee approved funding levels totaling only $123 million for juvenile justice programs in FY 2012 – a 55% reduction from FY 2011 and a more than 70% cut from FY 2010.

Specifically, the House Appropriations Committee plan would decrease funding that supports states juvenile justice programs by more than 35% and eliminate two other key programs all together, one which focuses on prevention and the other that supports improvements in detention facilities. The Senate is now considering this legislation.

These reductions will undermine federal efforts in juvenile justice, and jeopardize improvements essential to protecting our nation’s communities and most at-risk youth. Cuts of this magnitude will hurt kids and families and endanger public safety by resulting in more children in dangerous, costly lock-ups, greatly increasing risks of suicide, sexual and physical abuse, and disconnection from family, positive support, education and the workforce.

The petition urges Congress to reject the House cuts and adopt funding levels for these initiatives as close as possible to those included in the President’s budget. This effort is being done in partnership with Spark Action, an internet site for stories, news and tools for action by and for children and youth.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) plans to hold an executive hearing on reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA) Act on Tuesday, October 18. In advance of this hearing a draft bill has been posted on the committee website. The much anticipated bill is intended to reflect prolonged negotiations for a bi-partisan approach.

In regards to child welfare, the bill remains silent on the role of Local Education Agencies (LEA) in ensuring educational stability for children in foster care, which the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act (Fostering Connections, P.L. 110-351) made obligatory.

Fostering Connections requires state child welfare agencies to improve educational stability for children in care by coordinating with local education agencies to ensure that children remain in the school they are enrolled in at the time of placement into foster care, unless that would not be in the child's best interests. If remaining in the same school is not in the child's best interest, the state must ensure immediate enrollment in a new school with all of the educational records of the child provided to that new school. A complementary provision in ESEA would better enable states to fulfill this requirement by directly outlining the role of education officials.

Title X of the new ESEA bill reauthorizes the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act (McKinney-Vento, P.L. 100-77). It maintains the current definition of homeless children, including a reference to “children awaiting foster care placement.” Because this definition does not capture an identifiable population of children served by the child welfare system, it has not worked to extend McKinney-Vento provisions to children in care. However, the bill does update the educational stability provisions for homeless youth, describing in more detail processes required of the LEAs.

The ESEA/No Child Left Behind Act was due for reauthorization four years ago, but legislators have struggled to negotiate a bi-partisan approach. Recently, the administration discussed using waiver authority to enact education reforms that they do not believe can wait. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives’ Committee on Education and Workforce has divided the legislation into smaller bills that have passed as separate reform measures.

Yesterday Representatives Danny Davis (D-IL), Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX), and Karen Bass (D-CA) hosted a summit on child welfare at the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington DC. The summit, Increasing Permanency for African American Children Involved in the Child Welfare System, addressed issues affecting children of color in the child welfare system, and in particular African American children being over-represented compared to their representation in the general child population.

The summit held panel discussions on disproportionally and disparities in the child welfare system, successes in keeping children with their families and out of the system, successes in finding permanent homes for children in care, and how stakeholders with in the African American community, child welfare system and federal government can work together to scale up the successes.

Linda Spears, Child Welfare League of America’s Vice President for Policy and Public Affairs participated in the summit and discussed many of these topics as she presented on a panel of executives of national child welfare agencies.

I am willing to bet the conclusion was NOT to gut out CPS.  More likely, they called for INCREASING the head count of white kids in the system.  Parity

California Further Erodes Parental Rights In its 1979 Parham decision1 the U.S. Supreme Court held as a foundational principle of American law the “presumption that parents possess what a child lacks in maturity, experience, and capacity for judgment required for making life’s difficult decisions. More importantly, historically [American law] has recognized that natural bonds of affection lead parents to act in the best interest of their children.” Unfortunately, that respect for parental rights is no longer the standard2 – and it eroded even further this past weekend when California governor Jerry Brown signed into law AB499 allowing children as young as 12 to make their own decisions regarding the Gardasil vaccine. As constitutional law professor and former U.S. Magistrate Judge William Wagner warns in "God, Government, and Parental Rights," a chapter he wrote for the book Vaccine Epidemic, "the freedom of conscience and the sanctity behind parents directing the upbringing of their children no longer serve as moral benchmarks against which to measure whether government vaccination laws are right or wrong, good or bad, just or unjust. Instead, parents are told that questions regarding vaccination laws are public policy matters for the government to decide."3 The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) opposes Governor Brown’s decision to sign this law, which NVIC president Barbara Loe Fisher calls “a violation of parental rights and federal vaccine safety law.” In a press release, Fisher warns the law “is making it easy for big corporations and trade organizations, including doctors and drug companies protected from vaccine injury lawsuits, to exploit ordinary people to increase influence and profits.” That’s because the power to say “No” has been transferred from an experienced adult to an impressionable child. California is not the first state to pass such a law – Arkansas, Alabama, South Carolina, and several other states4 allow minors to make such decisions without parental protection, and Minnesota has already lowered the bar to age 12 – and they will likely not be the last. It may be that your state has already taken that power away from you. If they haven’t yet, it is likely they will. Progressive bureaucrats and special interest groups continue to push the notion that the government must make every decision, lest even one child fall victim to bad parenting. In 1979, the Court called this mindset “repugnant to American tradition.” Children must be protected, but freedom must be protected, too. Nevertheless, The American Academy of Pediatrics in California this weekend said “[We] support parental-teen communication, and in a perfect world, all youth would be able to speak openly with their parents or guardians about every health decision. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.” So, does the existence of a few bad parents, a few difficult situations, justify the violation of the natural, longstanding rights of all fit parents? California has decided that it does. And if your state doesn’t already agree, they will likely be next. Adoption of the proposed Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution can restore the legal presumption that was the foundational standard in the Parham case. It can protect the natural right of fit parents to provide the love and wisdom needed in making medical decisions for their child. Action Items As further erosion occurs, we must step up our efforts to turn back the clock on parental rights, to restore the standard that kept our children safe. (NaturalNews) Insanity prevailed in California once again today as Governor Jerry Brown signed bill AB499 allowing 12-year-old children the ability to consent to being injected with Gardasil vaccines without their parents' knowledge; yet at the same time the Governor banned the use of tanning beds by anyone under 18 unless they received parental consent.

For the record, HPV vaccines are widely linked to maiming and even killing countless children while contributing absolutely nothing to the body's real defense of cervical cancer. The entire fabrication of quack science behind HPV vaccines is nothing but a corporation fantasy created to drum up sales for vaccines. In contrast to that, tanning beds have actually been scientifically shown to increase vitamin D levels in people who are deficient in vitamin D -- and that includes the vast majority of the population living in California.

12-year-old children cannot give adult consent!

The whole idea that 12-year-old children can give "consent" to being injected with HPV vaccines is a total violation of common sense and yet another encroachment of the nanny state upon the rights of parents.

The idea that 12-year-old children can consent to invasive medical procedures that carry a very real risk of death is absurd. Is the state now going to say that 12-year-old children are adults and can buy beer, drive vehicles and consent to sexual encounters with other adults, too? If Jerry Brown is saying that 12-year-old children are old enough to make such major decisions about their sexual health, then by implication he's also saying that 12-year-olds have the right to decide, for example, that they want to have sex with a 20-year-old.

But that's crazy. This is why we have laws about sexual predators who target minors. It's based on the premise that minors do not yet have the worldview understanding to make well-informed decisions about their own wellbeing, and that they are thus easily preyed upon by those who would approach them with their own selfish agenda.

Let's speak freely and openly about how CPS agents operate and the fact they daily commit Federal Capital crimes against America's families-

CPS agents have immunity, no matter if they are caught lying, fabricating evidence, hiding exculpatory evidence.  Which IS their mode of operation.

The Family courts are unconstitutional courts of NO Due Process, no presumption of innocence, and very few lawyers know how to provide a vigorous defense.

We now have the same (or worse) situation our forefathers had in 1776-

Make no mistake, CPS agents are some of the nastiest and most sociopathic people on earth, and it is a wonder more violence doesn't befall them.

It sure would be nice if someday the premises, agenda, and terroristic mode of operation of CPS could be changed.

EU: Children to be banned from blowing up balloons, under EU safety rules

Children are to be banned from taking part in traditional Christmas games, from blowing up balloons to blowing on party whistles, because of new EU safety rules that have just entered into force.

The EU toy safety directive, agreed and implemented by Government, states that balloons must not be blown up by unsupervised children under the age of eight, in case they accidentally swallow them and choke.

Despite having been popular favourites for generations of children, party games including whistles and magnetic fishing games are to be banned because their small parts or chemicals used in making them are decreed to be too risky.

Apparently harmless toys that children have enjoyed for decades are now regarded by EU regulators as posing an unacceptable safety risk. FULL STORY

Kristin Anderson Moore, Child Trends Each year, Child Trends hosts the Kristin Anderson Moore lecture to honor the work and research of Senior Research Scholar and former Child Trends President, Kristin Moore. This year's lecture focused on research by Dr. Richard Catalano on the Communities that Care (CTC) program implemented in 500 communities worldwide to provide services and supports to at-risk adolescents.  Dr. Catalano, from the University of Washington School of Social Work, spoke about the Communities that Care approach, a community-wide effort to reduce risk factors and to build protective factors, and one that has been found to have significant positive impacts on adolescents. Child Trends released a new brief, Mobilizing Communities to Implement Tested and Effective Programs to Help Youth Avoid Risky Behaviors, which reviews the CTC program model. The model integrates rigorously evaluated programs with community efforts to reduce risky behavior. Youth in CTC sites have been found to be less likely to start smoking, drinking, or engaging in delinquent behavior.  Following Dr. Catalano's presentation, two respondents were invited to offer reactions to the lecture.  Dr. Michael Little of the Social Research Unit in the United Kingdom commented on the leadership of the U.S. in generating evidence of social interventions that work and underscored the importance of expanding access to effective programs.  Patrick Lester of the Alliance for Children and Families offered a federal policy perspective on place-based initiatives, including those being advance through the Obama administration's Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.   In addition, today Child Trends released Preventing Multiple Risky Behaviors among Adolescents, a brief that summarizes seven strategies for preventing multiple risky behaviors among adolescents. Child Trends identified these strategies through a comprehensive literature review which will be published later this fall. For each strategy, Child Trends synthesized scientific studies and evaluations to highlight several programs that have shown promise for reducing multiple risky behaviors by working with adolescents in family, peer, school, and community settings. Risky behaviors are fairly common in adolescence and can be associated with serious, long-term consequences, particularly when adolescents engage in more than one behavior. Although adolescents often take part in multiple risky behaviors, most risk prevention programs have been designed to prevent a single risky behavior. However, research suggests that there are program approaches that may prevent multiple risky behaviors as well as common factors that can influence risk-taking. Designing programs to prevent multiple risky behaviors by specifically targeting common risk and protective factors may be more cost-effective and more likely to produce long-term behavioral change.
