Further Action to Halt CRPD

On Friday we alerted you to the need for visits to your senators’ offices on Monday, Sept. 17. Let me urge you again to consider making a visit, as it is the single most effective thing you can do to halt this treaty. (See that email for details and talking points.)

There are, however, 4 additional actions you can also take to make sure this treaty does not receive a vote this month. Please take action in as many ways as you can!

1. Call your Senator’s D.C. office.

Regardless of his or her current stance on the CRPD, they need to hear from you that you oppose this treaty. Tell them it violates parental rights and threatens U.S. sovereignty. Point out that our ratification binds us – not other nations – to make changes in domestic law. And warn them that the Understandings currently being offered are poorly worded and ineffective for protecting American rights, American families, and American law.

You can find their D.C. phone numbers by clicking on your state at ParentalRights.org/States.

2. Call your Representative.

Members of the House don’t get to vote on treaty ratification, but that hasn’t stopped Reps. Jim Jordan (OH) and Ann Marie Buerkle (NY) from circulating a letter to express their opposition. Already 70 members of the House have signed on. Call your Representative, tell them about the letter, and ask if they have signed it yet. If not, urge them to contact Rep. Jordan or Rep. Buerkle and ask to add their name in opposition to this treaty.

Your Representative’s phone number is also available through ParentalRights.org.States.

3. Contact your Veterans’ or Disability group.

Proponents of the treaty claim that “every veterans’ group in the country” supports its ratification, and that major disability groups also support it, as a reason to ratify. But we believe these groups have been seriously misled about what the treaty will or will not do. We heard first-hand at the committee hearing what is being promised to our disabled heroes – and it is a false hope. U.S. ratification of the CRPD will not force changes in the laws of other nations – it will only bind the lawmakers in our own.

If you are a member of a veterans’ group or a disability group, please identify yourself as such when you contact your senators and your congressman. But also, contact your group and urge them to reconsider their position on this treaty. Share with them your concerns. If you have the ear of someone high up in a national organization, offer to put them in touch with Michael Farris to discuss our concerns – and send an email to jonathan@parentalrights.org if they are willing.

If you are a member of a group – even a small local organization – that has not yet taken a stand, urge them to speak up on behalf of American families and American law. Our lawmakers are already leading the world. Why would we want to replace them with a U.N. committee in the area of protecting those with disabilities?

4. Donate to continue the fight.

All of our efforts at ParentalRights.org, including holding the line against dangerous treaties and championing a permanent solution in the Parental Rights Amendment, are funded by concerned Americans just like you. Please consider making a generous donation today to continue these efforts.

We also continue to offer Internet Safety 101, a powerful tool to protect your children from modern tech-driven dangers, free with your donation of $100 or more.

Thank you for standing with us to protect parental rights and American sovereignty. Together we will protect our disabled veterans and children from the hidden dangers of this treaty.

Sincerely,

Michael Ramey
Director of Communications & Research

P.S. – With you, we remember the victims of the terror attack on September 11, 2001. And we seek to preserve the freedoms that came under attack when they did – when we all did – on that fateful day.
